Title: DIRECTOR OF DATA SCIENCE - CHICAGO/REMOTE
POSITION SUMMARY:
This is a highly unique and visible position with the focus to modernize, innovate and drive analytics and data science across a national association of 100,000 members that has been around for 150 years.
This newly created role will be responsible for collaborating and driving thought leadership and analytics in a few key areas:
- Evolving the level of analytics and data visualization of the association in the areas of econometrics, predictive modeling, machine learning, and advanced business intelligence.
- Being the SME and face of analytics for the association. Expect collaboration with academia, local and national conference participation, key vendors, as well as industry publications.
- Having a heavy focus on “data translation” and being the go-to person to communicate technical and complex data to a semi-technical user base and audience.
- Contributing to thought leadership in the areas of data governance, privacy, and monetization of existing sources of patient/clinic data.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manages communication with key stakeholders, collaborates with both technical and non-technical colleagues to complete data projects and ensures all parties can use the insights to further improve work outcomes.
- Works with stakeholders and leadership to distill the problem, adapts technical tools to answer complicated questions, and identifies the trade-offs between speed and quality of different approaches.
- Performs data modeling, metric development, and insight generation using statistical models.
- Sources, queries, and cleans data required for quantitative analysis; systematically connects disparate and potentially complex data sets.
- Responds to requests for data and information internally from colleagues and externally from association members and stakeholders.
- Plans, implements, and improves data management and analytics and improve the effectiveness of Economic Division products and services.
- Creates, develops and maintains analyses, automated reports, and visualizations.
- Communicates findings, actionable recommendations, and data limitations to stakeholders to facilitate date-driven decisions.
REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
- 3+ years of experience as a data scientist engaged in relevant quantitative and qualitative research and analytics.
- Significant experience in large-scale data analysis, data integration, data mining, optimization techniques, algorithm design and development, and data visualization.
- Working knowledge of econometrics, statistics and probability and experience with more advanced modeling techniques (e.g. ML, Bayesian, choice modeling).
- Proficient programming skills and strong knowledge of database management and architecture are a must.
- Practical knowledge and experience using R, SQL, Python (and its scientific libraries SciPy, Scikit, Pandas, NumPy) and Tableau.
- Strong desire to work cross-functionally with excellent communication skills.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Master’s Degree or PhD in data science, statistics, engineering, computer science, econometrics or a related technical field.
